Where can I find the ingredients for your products?

On both the full product listing page and the individual product pages, you can click the "Ingredients" link to see a full list of all active ingredients, as well as their function and source.

How many tablets should I use per bottle?

For our soap, 3 tablets per 16.9oz bottle. Many other brands use 10-12oz bottles — if you are using one of those, 2 tablets may be sufficient depending on your preference. For our cleaners, use 1 tablet per 32oz bottle.

What do I do with the tablets?

Fill the bottle (yours or ours) with warm water up to the top of the label, leaving a bit of room at the top for bubbles to form.
Open the tablet pouches (see instructions for the number to add) and drop them in.
Relax, and watch the magic happen. When the tablets are done dissolving, you're ready to go.

Why are your bottles empty?

It's part of the core of our philosophy: we don't want to be charging you to ship something you already have (water) and we want to minimize our carbon footprint. We even throw in enough tablets for a second full bottle of cleaner, because we want you to feel absolutely sure that you've gotten the best (and most sustainable) deal around.

Are your products cruelty free?

No animals, adorable or otherwise, were harmed in the making of our products.

Why are there small crystals at the bottom of the bottle?

The reaction from the dissolving tablets sometimes leaves a small amount remaining after the water cools and the reaction slows down. Giving the bottle a shake should break the remaining pieces up and speed up the process, but over time they should all dissolve on their own.

If you have hard water (rich in minerals), this may also cause some crystallization over time. Unusually hard water may also reduce the effectiveness of some ingredients, like preservatives. If you know that you have hard water, we recommend that you use distilled water when rehydrating Clean Brand products for maximum effectiveness.

How long do the tablets stay good?

Left in their sealed packaging, the tablets can remain effective for up to two years. Once the seal is broken, however, they will begin absorbing moisture from the air. If kept in a cool, dry place they will stay good for up to a month after being opened.

Once the tablets have been added to water, the resulting soap/cleaner is guaranteed good for four months. It may remain effective for far longer — however, due to differences in water quality and contents from one region to another, it is not guaranteed beyond that time.

Do I need to clean the bottle?

The tablets contain anti-microbial preservatives, so you do not necessarily need to clean the bottle between refills to maintain sterility. However, we do recommend cleaning the bottle between refills to prevent the buildup of unsightly dried soap residue.

Do I need to use distilled water?

Distilled water is not required, but it is recommended. There is a large amount of regional variance in tap water, which can affect water clarity or in rare cases cause some ingredients to crystallize.

Can I put the cap/sprayer on the bottle immediately after putting in the tablets?

We do not recommend this, but if you would like to do so then here are our recommendations:

Leave a little extra room at the top for the gas that will build up
Use water that is a little cooler than normal. This makes the reaction slower and less likely to spill out from a cap that isn't throughly sealed as the pressure in the bottle builds.
Once the tablet is done dissolving, you may want to remove the cap briefly to allow built up gasses to vent out. It shouldn't affect the bottle if you don't, but your initial pumps may be a little more engergetic if you don't release the pressure.

Do I need to use warm water?

The temperature of the water affects how quickly the tablets dissolve. As long as you don't mind waiting a little longer, you can use cold water. On the flip side, using very hot water will make the tablets dissolve faster which will cause them to produce extra bubbles and potentially bubble right out of the container onto your counter. That's why we recommend warm water as the happy middle ground.

How many uses is the bottle good for?

Our bottles are extremely durable. As we note on the How It Works page, some of our original test bottles are still in service around the office. As long as they aren't dropped or broken, you should be able to continue using them indefinitely.

How long will one bottle last?

That's hard for us to say, since it depends on the number of people using it and how often they wash. What we can say is that our hand soap bottle is at least 33% larger than most competing brands, so you can expect it to last you even longer than other brands you're used to.

Does it matter if the refill tablets don't match the bottle?

Not at all. Every bottle is identical aside from the label, so feel free to use whatever you like.

Are Clean Brand products organic?

Our products are not certified organic, but they do contain naturally-derived ingredients.

How much better for the environment are Clean Brand products?

A single truck shipping Clean Brand tablets can carry 10x as much cleaner in the same space. Over time that adds up to vast savings in CO2 emissions. And that doesn't even mention the savings on emissions related to bottle construction and waste elimination.
